A half-breed, there is no date of birth just sad readings of his demise at the hands of a drunken Indian. Stories are passed down from family members who settled the Blackfoot Valley. Stories of Montour working as interpreter between Native Indians, and wagon Masters, giving them safe passage through the valley on westward to Oregon.

Montour serving as an interpreter/guide for Major John Owen of Fort Owen, Stevensville, Montana, an Indian Agent and employee of the Hudson Bay Fur Company, at times all most at reckless abandon in extraordinary situations as they entered into the interior, involving skirmishes with other hostile Indians while guiding Maj. Owen and Charles W. Frush. How Montour, with his expertise, understanding and skills of the Indian, saved not only their lives, but also the lives of their Hudson Bay Fur Company brigade.

The book divided into two parts- Part I detailing what little is known about his life and murder and Part II, an Eidolon- an imaginary story of Montours life as it may have been as a youth.
